At Hosanna, we share the good news of God’s love, in both worship and service. It’s that simple.
What is a Lutheran?
A Lutheran is a member of the larger Christian Church, believing that we are brought to eternal life by the grace of God and through God’s son, Jesus Christ. Specifics of the Lutheran denomination can be found here.
Our Mission
Hosanna Lutheran Church equips God’s people of all ages for Christian witness and service through worship, learning, fellowship, and spiritual care.
Our Vision
Empowered by dynamic and creative liturgical Lutheran worship, Hosanna Lutheran Church will lead Edmonton in equipping Christians for spiritual growth and service.
Our Staff
Pastor James Hendricksen
Hi, my name is James. I have been the senior pastor at Hosanna Lutheran since October 2012. I grew up in a small town in Alberta, where I learned that there is value in a hard day’s work. My family, which was a normal family in that it wasn’t perfect, taught me that love is an action word. Faith has always been a part of my life as I was raised in a Christian home and was positively influenced by many faith mentors throughout the years.
Pastor Anna Thede
Hello! I was born and raised in Edmonton, AB. I have a wonderful family, including parents, sisters, grandparents, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. I was raised as a part of the ELCIC, both baptized and confirmed here in Edmonton at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. After high school, I followed my call into the ministry by attending The Kings University College, from which I received a Bachelor of Art with a Religion Major. I attended seminary at The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, in Gettysburg, PA, USA.
Sonja Carmichael
I have been the Director of Education and Family Ministries at Hosanna since 2007, but have been a member of Hosanna for over 40 years (before we were even named Hosanna!). I love that I get to interact with people of all ages in Sunday School, VBS, Bible studies, and fellowship. In my spare time, I like to make quilt tops and afghans for the quilting group at Hosanna. My husband, George, and I have two grown children who still insist on getting together for “family dinners” on Sunday which usually include board games, hats, and a lot of noise and laughter!
Lena Nikolic
Hi! My name is Lena, and I came here as a volunteer through the Food Bank program, which I committed myself to for four years. I met so many people from the community and Hosanna, too. It has been a pleasure to be involved like this. Back in 2012, I was offered the Administrative Secretary position here, which I gladly accepted and have never regretted. I have made many friends here and have been overwhelmed by the kindness and consideration of the people of Hosanna. What a great place to be!
